The formula
Time on site is departure minus arrival. Billable time is time on site minus your free time. Detention owed is billable hours times your hourly rate.
This calculator bills completed increments only. With the 15-minute default, 29 minutes past free time bills as 15 minutes and 30 minutes bills as 30. Some brokers round up instead, so check your rate confirmation and pick the increment it states. If you leave inside your free time, you owe nothing and neither does the customer.
How to use it
- Enter the times from your check-in and release, on a 24-hour clock.
- Tick the box if you left after midnight, so the clock rolls into the next day.
- Enter the free time and hourly rate from your rate confirmation.
- Put the amount on your invoice with your arrival and departure times as proof.
The times and rate in the boxes are examples to show how it works. Replace them with your own.
